Article 7: What to do if your page has a ‘Prohibited phrase’ Content error.

Problem:

We were able to connect to your server and fetch the page without problem, but when we examined the content of the page is contained a phrase that we think may indicate a problem.

Background:

Looking for error codes from a Web server will only take you so far. There are many examples of pages that the server thinks are correct, but are not what the Webmaster intended. If, for example, the page contains data pulled from a SQL database, a SQL configuration problem could cause the page to display “SQL log full”. While the page is valid html code, this is not what was intended.

To help to spot these types of problems, we have a default list of phrases such as “log full” that may indicate a problem. The list can be configured for each page, so if you happen to want “log full” on your page, let us know and we will no longer consider it an error. Similarly, if you have additional phrases you want us to watch for, let us know and we’ll add them to the list for your page.

Possible Reasons:

1. Use of the phrase on the page may be intentional.

2. Finding the phrase on your page may indicate an underlying problem.

Recommended Action:

Step 1. If you intended to use the phrase and it does not indicate a problem, just let us know and we’ll stop watching for that phrase. You might want to check the list of phrases we’re watching for from your Weekly Status Report. You can delete or add phrases to the lists as you like by emailing us your instructions.

If the phrase indicates a problem, you should repair the underlying error. If it is helpful in diagnosing the problem, we likely have a cached copy of the html source for the page from the time the error occurred. If you email us we’ll be happy to pass this along.

As with all errors, if we can be of help resolving your problem please let us know by email to support@brandprotect.com or by calling toll-free (800) 724-4724 from within the United States or Canada, or (416) 269-7744 internationally.
